Day 17: Self-Talk Method – Speak English with Yourself
Build fluency by talking to yourself in English
Learn the powerful technique of self-talk to improve speaking speed, confidence, and vocabulary without a partner.
What is Self-Talk?
Self-talk means speaking to yourself in English – describing actions, thoughts, feelings, and plans. It's a safe, no-pressure way to practice anytime, anywhere.
“I'm making tea now. First, I boil water. Then I add leaves...”
Why it works
It trains your brain to form sentences directly in English, reduces hesitation, builds vocabulary in context, and improves pronunciation through repetition.
5 Levels of Self-Talk (From Beginner to Advanced)
1Level 1: Describe actions (present continuous)
Say what you are doing right now. Use "I am + verb-ing".
“I am opening the fridge. I am taking out milk. I am pouring it into a glass.”
2Level 2: Describe surroundings & objects
Name things around you and describe them – color, size, shape, opinion.
“This is a blue notebook. It has 200 pages. It's quite thick. I like it.”
3Level 3: Plans & intentions (future tense)
Talk about what you will do or are going to do next.
“After this, I will call my sister. Then I'm going to watch a movie.”
4Level 4: Thoughts & opinions
Express what you think, feel, or prefer. Use "I think", "I feel", "In my opinion".
“I think this weather is lovely. I feel relaxed today. In my opinion, rain is better than heat.”
5Level 5: Narrate past events & tell stories
Describe something that happened earlier or tell a short story.
“This morning, I woke up late. I quickly got ready and ran to the bus stop. I just caught the bus!”
